Born in Taipei Taiwan, Violist Huang Hung-Wei was serving as a Guest Principal Viola of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2018, he became a member of the New York Philharmonic and in 2020, he won the position of Principal Viola of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. 

Huang has also performed as a chamber musician in Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall, Weill Recital Hall in New York, Jordon Hall in Boston, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., as well as The Marlboro Music Festival, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Great Mountain Music Festival, Seoul Spring Festival and Taiwan Connection music festival. 

Huang began his music lessons at the age of seven, with Lin Chia-Zong, and won the Taiwan National Instrumental Competition in 1993. The following year, he was accepted at The Curtis Institute of Music on the Louisa Knapp Curtis Fellowship. He then received the Walter W. Naumberg Scholarship to The Juilliard School, working with Samuel Rhodes. In 2002, he became the youngest Principal Viola of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. In year 2005, he was appointed as the Principal viola of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.

Huang also devotes his time as an educator. His pupils are members of professional orchestras all over Korea and other countries etc., and he was serving as a guest professor at the Korea National University of Art.
